Oscar Night Sweet and Spicy Togarashi Popcorn
Posted by Donna-Marie Pye on
Sometimes the simplest recipes are the best. This sweet and spicy popcorn is Oscar-worthy. Today's recipe uses Togarashi seasoning which is a Japanese spice blend made up of several different spices. The most common ingredients are red chili pepper, orange peel, black sesame, white sesame, ginger and nori. It's so addictive, you won't be able to stop nibbling!
Ingredients...
- 3 tbsp peanut or vegetable oil
- 1/3 cup popcorn kernels
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp Nanami Togarashi Seasoning Mix
- 1 tbsp Backyard Honey Company honey
- Kosher salt, optional
Method...
- Heat peanut/vegetable oil over medium heat in a heavy bottomed pot (we love to use our Le Creuset Dutch oven). Test the oil by adding 3 to 4 popcorn kernels in an even layer. When the kernels pop, add the remaining kernels in an even layer and cover with lid. Once the popcorn begins to pop, gently shake the pan by moving it back and forth on the burner. Transfer the popcorn to a large serving bowl.
- Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine butter, Nanami Togarashi seasoning mix and honey. Heat on medium until butter melts. Drizzle the melted mixture onto the prepared popcorn and toss the coat. Add a little extra salt to taste. Enjoy!
