While cooking allows for creative improvisation, baking and other ways to make sweets are all about precision. But that doesn't mean it should be intimidating. Use the right building blocks and learning to master a few techniques and you are well on your way to producing dozens of spectacular, delicious desserts.

This program is especially suitable for people who want to start from scratch.  Beginners in the kitchen will learn the basics and come away with confidence to bake independently.  Those with some experience will broaden their culinary knowledge, hone their skills and acquire valuable tips and insight so they can take their baking adventures to a new level.  Classes take place on Monday evenings from 6:00 – 9:00 pm on the following dates:  November 4th, 11th & 18th

What Will I Learn?

  • differences between types of flours
  • properly weighing ingredients
  • proper kneading techniques 
  • yeast breads vs quick breads
  • mixing and baking cake batter
  • creaming butter and incorporating ingredients
  • how to select chocolate
  • create pastry for sweet and savoury applications
  • create homemade buttercream frosting for many cake and brownie applications

Each session combines the instructor’s lecture and demonstration with individual hands-on execution of recipes that feature essential techniques in modern baking.   A light supper will be included in each session.

Class 1:  Breadmaking / Basic Yeast Bread Dough/ Banana Bread

Class 2:  Cakes, Brownies & Frosting / Yellow Buttercake / Angel Food Cake / Fudgy Brownies / Vanilla Buttercream

Class 3:  Pies & Tarts / No-Fail Pastry / Quick Puff Pastry / Sour Cream Apple Pie, Caramelized Onion Tart

 RELISH recipes are developed using common cooking and baking ingredients that may or may not be specified in the menu titles, including various fruits and vegetables, nuts, meats, spices, wheat flours, etc. If you have a food allergy, please check with us before attending the class. Adjustments to recipes cannot be made during class.
